#budgetgoals

Green cords, striped tunic, pink cardigan

I was going to skip doing a budget post this month, because I haven’t really been budgeting the way I should be so I didn’t even want to look back and see what I spent.

But I did and it wasn’t awful. In fact after taking into consideration what I earned on Poshmark, I didn’t spend anything.

Although the anxiety I got over the mere thought of looking back to see what I spent only makes it more evident how important it is that I get some sort of control over what I’m spending on clothes.

So I’ve got a plan! And I’m really hoping that saying it out-loud on the interwebs helps keep me accountable. Because if its on the internet its written in stone, right?

I’m not really a big fan of New Years Resolutions… but my budget plan happens to start January 2016 so I guess you could say this is a New Year’s Goal.

And the plan is this:

$500 each quarter, which ends up being about $166/month.

Having a quarterly budget as opposed to a monthly one gives me a little flexibility with consequences. So if I want a bigger-ticket item, I can get it, but it means I’ll have that much less for the quarter. An on the same token, if I don’t spend much one month, I’ll have that much more the next month πŸ™‚

As for my Poshmark sales, they’re too unstable to be a real part of any budget, so for now it’s basically extra cash-flow.

While my budget is set to start in January, I’d like to use the month of December to practice some self control. And I’ve actually already bought two things that are going to factor into my December budget, but outside of those items I’d like to ONLY spend what I sell on Poshmark.

To help me achieve this goal, I would like to try out a Shop My Closet challenge for the rest of the month. The challenge is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. For the days I have to get dressed, I’m going to look at my closet like an online store and make the most of what I’ve got. And clearly this week, I’m shopping stripes πŸ™‚

Alright now lets take a peak at what I bought this month..

November budget

From top left:
BP Blanket Scarf via Nordstroms $26 (now sold out)
Gorjana Mini Bar Earrings via Poshmark $25
J. Crew Perfect Fix Mixed-Tape Cardigan via J. Crew $49.50 w/30% off = $35
Home T $32
Hustlin’ Momma Hoodie via Mulberry Press Co. $50
2x Everlane The Cotton V-NeckΒ (this grey one and a white one) $30
Target Chunky Knit Scarf $14

Total Spent = $212
Sold on Poshmark = $216
Out of Pocket = $-4!

See, I actually didn’t go too crazy this month! Although I should note I also spent $150 for a new phone and $250 for family photos… and I maybe told my husband I was gonna use my Poshmark earnings on the new phone. Which technically I did? But then if that were the case my out of pocket spent would actually be $146, which is just a little bit more than $-4….

So in my “New Year’s goals” I should probably add that if I allocate my Poshmark earnings to a specific item that I should probably stick to my word πŸ˜‰

Now onto today’s outfit:
Top: Old Navy striped tunic (exact)
Sweater: Banana Republic from a very long time ago (similar)
Pants: LOFT Modern Skinny Cords (exact)
Boots: Korkease Michelle Booties (exact)

  1. Maybe I should try the same thing with my budget. I feel it got a little out of control this year, too!

Although, seeing that red scarf is making me want to run out and buy it right now (and this is why it got out of control!). Did you get it online or in-store?

    • haha! that’s exactly how it got out control for me too! I’m hoping to try now when I read fashion blogs to see what they’re wearing and try to think of what I already have that is similar πŸ˜‰
But as for the scarf, I bought it in the store. I actually saw another red scarf online I had gone in to buy, but found this and liked it better πŸ™‚
